Take 5 with … Netra Chetty
Updated: Sep 21, 2018
Meet Netra, another HIlls resident with impeccable foodie taste!
She's a very talented designer and photographer, mum to two teen girls and about to tie the knot with her best friend. She runs her own design business from home. She loves to cook, eat out, watch food shows and think about the next cake she might bake. Netra enjoys travelling and taking photos and together with her husband-to-be she plans to do a lot more of that - especially after their recent photographic safari in Africa. (Check out their adventures on Facebook!).
1. Where is your favourite place to eat in the Hills District?
Kebabiya in Bella Vista - The shared platters stretch from table end to end. Their team has taken the best traditional Indian flavours and given them a modern twist taking to the next level. If you're after an old-school butter chicken, this is not for you. The lamb cutlets are sublime, the succulent pieces of grilled chicken are just delicious. The big sharing platters are a great deal at $100 for 4 people and they come with a range of sides. Great value for a meal out with friends.
I also love Spidar in Castle Hill - I've only been once and I'm a convert. The 5-spiced braised pork belly bao literally melted in my mouth. The Spidar fried chicken marinated in buttermilk and served with sriracha mayo was an absolute standout, and before I'd even finished my portion, I'd ordered another serve to take home so I could relive the experience. The desserts change frequently, but I had a sago and pineapple concoction that was beyond sublime.
2. What is your beverage of choice?
I can never go past a really great mojito. Something about the freshness of the mint, the zing of the lime and a really good rum makes this, for me, the perfect all-round drink.
3. If you could have dinner with any 5 people (alive or dead), who would they be?
1. Michael Ondaatje
2. Nelson Mandela
4. Indira Ghandi
5. My fiance's mother who died before I got a chance to meet her.
4. If money, destination and logistics were no object, what would be your best night out experience?
My best night out would start in autumn in a small town in Sweden called Jukkasjarvi. My partner and I would hop on a sled pulled by a team of huskies, traversing the freshly fallen snow, watching the sunset while sipping hot lingonberry juice. After sunset, we would make our way to the Ice Hotel Restaurant for a dinner, drinks afterwards in the Ice Bar with their signature Absolute Vodka cocktails to warm up before retiring to one of their hotel suites sculpted from ice and surviving the rest of the night in a giant, arctic double sleeping bag to ensure we didn't freeze in the -5 rooms!
Netra's already been to the Ice Hotel but wants to return with the man she loves.
5. What music always puts you in the party mood?
Anything by P!nk, because she's just awesome.
