Pizza on Lomond, Winston Hills
- by Sarah
This is a local favourite of ours and have been going there for exactly 13 years. I know this because the original owner and his wife were expecting twins at the same time as I was expecting my first child so when we first started going to Pizza on Lomond, our conversations were always centred around how our lives were going to change – hers more than mine (twins!)
Since then, this neighbourhood pizza joint has changed hands but the service and the food hasn’t changed – it's always been fantastic.
Last Thursday was my daughter’s 13th birthday and as always she was given the choice of what she wanted to do for dinner – and to my surprise (not) her choice was Pizza on Lomond.
There were a few of us going so I booked. This is a must if you definitely want to eat in as the inside seating area is only small.
So much more than a pizza place
One of the best things about Pizza on Lomond has always been the staff. Everyone is super friendly and always very welcoming.
The other great thing about this place is the food. My kids (and husband) love the Lomond Wedges (wedges, bacon and melted cheese with sour cream and sweet chilli). I don't think we've ever gone and not ordered it as a starter. Occasionally, we will also add a Garlic Pizza as a starter. Verdict: both delicious.
One of our favourite mains is the Monza Pizza (BBQ sauce base, marinated chicken breast, bacon, avocado, broccoli and Spanish onions). On this visit, we ordered a mixture of veal, chicken and pasta dishes. Mine was the Chicken Boscaiola. It was huge. (I always try to go with the vegetables to make myself feel better about choosing the creamy dish because everyone knows that veggies cancel out creamy calories).
You know the best thing about having too much food?
The meals are typically huge. Out of seven of us I think only one of us managed to finish their meal.
This was a great thing for my youngest daughter because now she "had lunch for tomorrow” as she stated. Takeaway garlic pizza and chicken parmigiana it was!
Being the slack mother I am, there was no birthday cake (it was raining that day so I decided the walk to get the birthday cake could wait till her birthday party). I had originally planned to order a Nutella Pizza and put some birthday candles on that ..... Unfortunately, I also forgot the birthday candles (locking in my Mother of the Year title) so the girls opted for the Chocolate Gelato for dessert, another family favourite. Job done.
The added Pizza on Lomond bonus is that it's BYO; good on a rainy day (or any day for that matter).
Head on down to Pizza on Lomond anytime, but especially when you are looking for a relaxed dining experience for the family.
